Nigerian Pilot Makes History As First African To Fly The World Solo (Photo)

A Nigerian pilot who works for Air Djibouti has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world. Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin completed the final leg of his historic journey Wednesday afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport.
The pilot has completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September.
The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances. Ademilola says: “Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams. The official number of Nigerians currently living abroad has been revealed by the office of the SSA to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and The Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Thursday announced that there were currently about 15 million Nigerians in various parts of the world. Dabiri-Erewa made the announcement at the Island Club, Lagos, in a lecture entitled: “Nigerians in The Diaspora: Strengths and Challenges in Pursuit of National Development’’.  The Senior Special Assistant said that Nigerians living in the different countries of world were not all completely bad, but many of them were doing “excellently well’’ in their professions.  “We have found out that there are currently about 15 million Nigerians in the Diaspora. “We have Nigerians in different parts of the world. Fulani herdsmen raping our Wives, children – Anambra communities cry out

No fewer than 15 communities in Orumba-South Local Government of Anambra State on Tuesday alleged that Fulani herdsmen were raping their wives and children. Spokesperson of the community, Chukwudi Ugochukwu made the claim while speaking during a stakeholders meeting at Orumba-South Local Government Council Secretariat. Ugochukwu lamented that herdsmen allowed their cows to graze on farms, thereby destroying people’s livelihoods. According to the community spokesperson, “We live along the boundary with Imo State by Arondizuogu. All the farmlands there have been devastated by the herdsmen. “Some of our women have been raped on the farmlands but they refused to talk so that they will not be stigmatised. The entire Umunze is under threat.” He claimed that some women and girls had been raped on their way to their farms by the herdsmen, adding that no fewer than 20 of such cases had being recorded.

N6b defamation suit against DG NIMASA: Court adjournes indefinitely

The six billion naira defamation suit filed by former Governor of Rivers state, Peter Odili, against the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside has been adjourned indefinitely. Chief Judge of Rivers state, Justice Iyaye Lamikanra adjourned the matter because of a motion before the Appeal court over the ruling of the Chief Judge that bothers on the issue of house address earlier raised by Dakuku. Dakuku Peterside had filed an application asking the court to dismiss the suit before it on grounds that the writ of summons was addressed to Number 1, First street, Forces Avenue, Old GRA and not Number 1, First Close, Forces Avenue, Old GRA where he resides. Justice Lamikanra had in a ruling said the issue of address raised by Dakuku is not enough reason to dismiss the defamation suit. Counsel to Peter Odili, Joseph Ogu said the matter at the appeal court will be disposed off before the main suit on defamation can continue. “They…

Man sentenced to prison for insulting Governor Aminu Masari

A man identified as Gambo Saeed has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for insulting and defaming the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari.

A Katsina Chief Magistrates’ Court sentenced Saeed for insulting and defaming the character of Masari on social media.

Saeed resides at Muduru village in Mani Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Isa Liti, told the court that Saeed was arraigned following complaints received from Mansur Ali Mashi, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the Governor on Radio Monitoring.

The prosecutor added, “Mashi said the accused person abused Masari and called him names on social media.

“He said the accused person posted on the media that it was Gov. Masari who influenced the impeachment of Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Muduru.’’

He following the reports, police arrested the accused person and arraigned him for intentional insult, defamation of the governor’s character and inciting disturbance.

Nigerian-British boxer and Rio 2016 Olympian Lawrence Okolie took just 20 seconds to score a knockout win on his professional debut.
The 24-year-old compatriot Geoffrey Cave with two solid right hands at the bout held at Manchester Arena.
“Sorry to everyone that missed me fighting,” Okolie tweeted.
“The good news is a Won by KO in 20 seconds!! Bad news is I’m back in the cage for now.”
London-based Cave, 33, has now lost all three of his professional fights.
Okolie competed at heavyweight and lost to Cuban Erislandy Savon at the last-16 stage at the Rio Olympics.
He had boxed Savon once before and lost via a first-round stoppage, but at the second attempt he went the three-round distance with the Cuban who would eventually claim a bronze medal.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday narrated his prisons experience.

Obasanjo declared that he did three things while he was in Yola and Kirikiri prisons serving a jail term for a phantom coup charges by the late military dictator, Sani Abacha.

The ex-President noted that there should be no position that a man should find himself in life where he should not be useful to God.

According Obasanjo, the major challenge in life was not how to stay alive but “what to live for and what to live with.”

Obasanjo spoke at Shephered Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos during the Thanksgiving for his 80th birthday, organised by the church.

Ile-Ife riot: Tunde Bakare blasts police for arresting only Yorubas

The founding overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has condemned in totality what he termed lopsided arrests over the aftermath of the clash between the indigenes and the Hausa community in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Speaking in Lagos during his sermon at the Latter Rain Assembly, Bakare described as “an abuse” the arrest of some Yoruba as suspects in the clash and the justification of the arrest by the police.

 reports that police had paraded 20 suspects of Yoruba extraction in Abuja last week, alleging that they masterminded the riot in the town on March 8, where 46 persons were reportedly killed.

Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, who conducted the parade, did not, however, give reasons why no Hausa, who were involved in the clashes, were arrested as suspects.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, justified the arrests, which some Yoruba groups and individuals had described as one-sided and unacceptable.

Dollar Drops Below N400/$ For First Time In Seven Months

For the first time in seven months, the dollar fell below the psychological N400 barrier, when the greenback traded at N399 to the dollar in Lagos and exchanged at N395 in Abuja, lower than N410 at which it traded on Tuesday.
